The ideal candidate must have previous experience in working in the public sector (past work experience with the local government are HIGHLY ESSENTIAL).



1.         To prepare meals for children and staff, organise catering supplies, maintain good hygiene standards and promote healthy eating.


1          Prepare meals for the children accommodated and the staff working with them.

2          Prepare snacks and packed lunches for the children when required.

3          Ensure meals prepared meet the children’s individual dietary requirements as stated in their placement plans.

4          Plan menus taking into account the above needs and also the children’s stated likes and dislikes.

5          Purchase ingredients and equipment necessary in consultation with Managers and manage finances in line with departmental policies.

6          Ensure statutory requirements are adhered to (eg. Health and Safety, Environmental Health).

7          Assist with the completion of statutory risk assessments associated with this area of work.

8          Ensure care staff are inducted and supervised in good food handling and hygiene practices in the kitchen.

9          Clean the kitchen and food storage areas as per the cleaning schedule.

10         Ensure effective stock management is used to ensure ingredients remain suitable for use and ensure effective stock rotation is used to minimise wastage

11         Promote healthy eating for the children and minimising the use of ‘junk’ foods.

12         Attend training, supervision and meetings as directed by the line manager.

13         Provide cookery activities with the children in partnership with the care staff.
